Description

MONAX-LC is a combination medication primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (such as hay fever) and to help manage mild asthma. It works by blocking chemical messengers in the body that trigger allergic reactions and cause airway inflammation.
Composition and How It Works
MONAX-LC contains two active ingredients:
  • Montelukast Sodium (10 mg): A leukotriene receptor antagonist that reduces swelling and inflammation in the airways, making breathing easier.
  • Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride (5 mg): An antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine, relieving symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itchy, watery eyes.
Common Uses
  • Allergic Rhinitis: Relief from seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms.
  • Asthma Management: Long-term prevention and control of asthma symptoms (not for acute attacks).
  • Urticaria (Hives): Treatment of chronic skin allergies characterized by itching and swelling.
Important Safety Information
  • Dosage: Must be taken exactly as directed by a physician. It is often recommended to be taken once daily, preferably in the evening, as it can cause drowsiness.
  • Driving: Use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects your alertness.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol, as it can worsen drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Acute Attacks: This medicine is not an emergency treatment for acute asthma attacks. Always use a rescue inhaler for such situations.
  • Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a history of psychiatric illness, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Common Side Effects
Side effects are generally mild and temporary, including headache, dry mouth, tiredness, sleepiness, and stomach discomfort.
