Trecef-200 DT is a combination medication containing an antibiotic (Cefixime) and a probiotic (Lactic Acid Bacillus), used to treat various bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, ears, nose, and throat.

Composition and How It Works

Trecef-200 DT contains two active components that work together:

Cefixime (200 mg): A third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective outer layer (cell wall), which is essential for their survival.
Lactic Acid Bacillus: A beneficial probiotic bacteria that helps restore and maintain a healthy balance of “good” bacteria in the intestine. This is particularly useful for preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea, a common side effect of Cefixime.

Common Uses

This medication is typically used to manage:

Respiratory Infections: Such as pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Including bladder and kidney infections.
ENT Infections: Bacterial infections of the ear (otitis media), nose, and sinuses (sinusitis).
Other Infections: It can also be effective against typhoid fever and certain sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea.

Important Precautions

Administration: It is a dispersible tablet (DT), which should be dissolved in a small amount of water before consumption as directed by a physician.
Complete the Course: Always finish the full prescribed course, even if you feel better, to prevent the return of the infection and antibiotic resistance.
Viral Infections: This medicine will not work for viral infections such as the common cold, flu, or coughs caused by viruses.
