Description

Floxto-OZ is a combination antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication used to treat various bacterial and parasitic infections. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as severe diarrhea, dysentery, gastrointestinal infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Composition and How It Works

Floxto-OZ contains two active ingredients that work together to eliminate infection-causing organisms:

  • Ofloxacin: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that prevents bacteria from growing and repairing their genetic material (DNA), leading to their death.
  • Ornidazole: A nitroimidazole antibiotic that disrupts the DNA of parasites and certain anaerobic bacteria, effectively killing them.
Common Side Effects
While most side effects are mild and resolve as your body adjusts, they may include:
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Stomach pain or abdominal discomfort.
  • Dizziness, headache, or difficulty sleeping (insomnia).
  • Loss of appetite or dry mouth.
Important Precautions
  • Administration: It is best taken with or after food to minimize stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew it.
  • Complete the Course: Always finish the full prescribed course, even if you feel better, to prevent the return of the infection and antibiotic resistance.
  • Sun Sensitivity: This medication can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight (photosensitivity). Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after your last dose, as it can cause severe nausea, dizziness, and vomiting.
  • Driving: It may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Tendon Health: Quinolone antibiotics are associated with an increased risk of tendonitis or tendon rupture. Stop the medicine and consult a doctor immediately if you experience any tendon pain or swelling.
